У статті подано характеристику літературознавчій і педагогічній діяльності доктора філологічних наук, професора Олени Дмитрівни Гнідан. На основі огляду змісту колективного підручника для студентів вищих закладів освіти "Історія української літератури кінець ХІХ – початок ХХ ст. у двох книгах" проаналізовано його основні складові, надано оцінку матеріалу, який сприятиме розумінню студентами доволі складного періоду розвитку літературного життя кінця ХІХ – початку ХХ століття. Зроблено висновок про вагомість науково-педагогічних досягнень літературознавчої школи Олени Гнідан у озброєнні молоді сучасними і науково виваженими знаннями про письменство й індивідуальну значущість спадщини літераторів.
Introduction. Contemporary literary criticism is a sign of the names of prominent scholars who devoted their activities to little-known pages of Ukrainian literature. Olena Hnidan, Doctor of Philology, Professor a lso belongs to such scientists. She is the author of numerous scientific works on the life and work of the iconic Ukrainian writers of the early twentieth centur y. However, its main achievements are the students who continue their work, paying great attent ion to the formation of national education of students and students.
Purpose: to analyze the scientific achievements of the literary school Olena Hnidan, to determine their important role in shaping the national consciousness of students of higher educational institutions.
Results. The article gives a description of literary studies and pedagogical activity of the doctor of philological sciences, professor Olena Dmitrievna Hnidan. On the basis of the review of the contents of the collective textbook for st udents of higher educational institutions "History of Ukrainian literature, the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century in two books", his main components were analyzed, an assessment of the material was made that would help stud ents to understand the rather complicated period of the development of the literary life of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Originality. The names of the parts of the book testify to their relevance for the historical and literary educat ion of philologists and contemporary students: "Historical and political discourse of the day (1890 – 1913)", "Speakers and ideologues of independence of Ukraine", "Ukraine in the spirit of revolution (1914 – 1920)", New tracks of "Young Ukraine". This is not only a response to historic events in the literary aspect, but also a contemporary rethinking of the then ideology of Ukraine’s sovereignty, a new look at seemingly well-known factual material.
From the pages of the textbook it becomes clear that the last decades of the nineteenth century – time to seek new ideological trends, new ways of political activity, and, most importantly – artistic creativity. Authors of the textbook adhere to unified structuring in the coverage of the writer ’s creativity. At the beginning of each studio, the main events of the biography of the artist are outlined, and in the future the author analyzes the achievements o f the individual writer – either according to the periods of creativity (O. Kobylianska, M. Kotsyubinsky, V. Stefanik, Les Martovich, etc.), by the genres of works ( Lesia Ukrainka, O. Makovei, V. Vynnychenko), or according to the developed themes (S. Vasilchenko).
Conclusion. The conclusion is drawn about the importance of the scientific and pedagogical achievements of literary school Olena Hnidan in arming young people with modern and scientifically sound knowledge of writing and individual significance of the heritage of writers.
