The article defined content control and developed a differentiated assessment of physical abilities of students in initial training combat sambo. Theoretical analysis, summarizing the experience of practice and the results of our pilot study suggest the following conclusions: General physical training of students on initial training combat sambo is one of the priorities of the first half of the specialized basic stage multi-sports improvement, and implementation mechanisms operational control ensures effective management of these processes. Factor analysis of the structure of physical fitness of students, who are engaged sambo, possible to determine the content of control over the development of physical abilities at the special stage of basic training: maximum speed and power; speed and strength endurance; special endurance; endurance and frequency of movements; agility. Developed three-level differentiated assessment of the components of physical training of fighters-sambysts students can receive timely information on the status of physical abilities specified contingent and, if necessary, in time to make adjustments in the training process that helps avoid the negative consequences of overloading the body of students who are engaged sambo.
