Is revealed the current trends in
physical education of senior pupils. Indicated that at all stages of development of the national school education general concept
of physical education of the younger generation has undergone qualitative changes under the influence of various factors,
including social and political conditions, economic relations. It is established that goal, objectives and content of physical
education of pupils is determined by the level of production, science, technology and culture, the development of pedagogical
theory, the purpose and objectives of education that society puts in front of the school. It is alleged that the system of physical
education of senior school is a subsystem of school physical education, which includes the final stage and aims to prepare for
adult life and future professional activities. Is conducted a theoretical and scientific analysis of school programs on the subject
«Physical culture» for the past 30 years. Is proved that despite significant qualitative changes in the software and attempts to
improve the status of physical culture among youth, modern system of school physical education age is ineffective. Is confirmed
that the strategic task of improving the quality of physical education of senior pupils requires consideration of their interests,
needs and opportunities in shaping the content of physical education,, adapt organizational conditions and practical
implementation of its tasks to the demands of modern society and global trends.
