July 29, 2012 was the 80th anniversary of V. P. Shunkov. Unfortunately, he did not live up to the anniversary. V. P. Shunkov is a classic of group theory, the founder of the Krasnoyarsk school in the theory of infinite groups with finiteness conditions. This article is about his life, his studies and his disciples.
