The historical aspects of impacts of periodicals on the development and establishment of physical education of women in Ukraine in the interwar period 1917-1940 are presented in this paper. Press materials show how social and political events connected with the end of World War I, the October Revolution of 1917, the formation of the Soviet Union influenced young women and their relationship to physical education and sport in different regions of Ukraine. Analysis of studied sports periodic publications showed that the formation of mass sports movement in the 20's of the last century and involvement of the general public to physical training led to the creation of a developed system of media - industry newspapers, magazines, scientific and methodological issues that have become important and effective tool for solving problems of physical culture and sports, and physical education in the country. Contemporary sports periodicals (newspapers, magazines, journals) of advocacy, educational, scientific and theoretical character in the field of sport and allied sciences, became the spokesmen of progressive social thought, tribune of scientific debate, integral part of training, information support of research activities in universities, as well as a means of formation of national consciousness or, conversely, native ideology of the ruling governments. It should be considered that the Ukrainian lands were separated and the publication of periodicals in physical education in Eastern Ukraine, Bukovyna, Zakarpatia and Galicia were formed under different conditions.
