На основі текстуального аналізу творів Юрія Клена виявлено різноманітні типи метафор і з’ясовано їх походження, естетичну природу та функціональні можливості. Запропоновано класифікацію метафор: зорового класу, кольороназви,
слухового класу, смакового класу, тактильного класу, одоративні метафори, синкретичні метафори, а також визначено метафоричні функції "вічних" та психологічних образів.
Introduction. Yuri Klen (Oswald Burghardt) is the poet who has continued the Kiev neoclassical tradition in the exile. The works of the poet are constantly in the field of interest of literary critics. However, the aesthetic nature of the poetry of Yuri Klen, the peculiarities of his individual style (the semantic content of the poetic word, the functional load of the wor d in the text, the dominant shaped systems, the specificity of artistic creation - at the level of the application of the trails of speech) remain not sufficiently investigsted. Purpose. The purpose of this publication is to understand the peculiarities of the manifestation and functioning of metaphorical constructions in the poetic language of Yuri Klen. Results. The article analyzes the metaphorical images of Yuri Klen’s poetr, which are based on the sensory form of cognition, reproduce the mental state or are formed as a result of individual and authorial ret hinking of the traditional ("eternal") images, and their functions are clarified. It is revealed that the most numerous group of metaphors is based on visual sensations. Less frequent are metaphorical images, formed on the basis of tactile sensations(touch ing), odorative (olfactory), auditory and taste associations.
Originality. The works of Yuri Klen give grounds for the assertion that the poet is endowed with the ability of synesthesia. His property, at the same time, provides the experience of the impressions received from several sensory organs. Conclusion. The poetic works of Yuri Klen clearly reflect the peculiarities of his artistic thinking, in particular the metaphorical perception of the world. The artist’s metaphors, though built on the basis of the traditional vocabulary of poetry, are, however, updated by the author’s associations themselves. The functional diversity of the metaphor in the poetic world of Yuri Klen is primarily caused by the Ukrainian national-language picture of worldview, life and literary sources, at the same time it fully reflects the aesthetic, cultural and historical positions of the author.
