Present dissertation is devoted to a comprehensive critical analysis of methodological, hermeneutical, biblical, theological and social aspects of such an important direction of the social thought of modern Christianity as the Latin American liberation theology. The scientific novelty of the study is that it is the first time in Ukrainian academic theology and religious studies that a systematic critical analysis of Latin American liberation theology, its genesis, methodology, content and characteristics is opened, which opens new possibilities for analyzing of the social role of the church and its response to such acute social challenges such as injustice, oppression, poverty, political involvement and more. Within the framework of the dissertation, the theology of liberation was investigated as a peculiar (though not perfect) theological method, through which a special view of the nature of social reality becomes possible.
