Introduction. The article explores the problem of Soviet linguistic discourse in the story of Fedir Odrach «On Uncertain Grounds». Important concepts of imagological research are the national character and the image of «alien». In fiction, images of «alien» are often created with the help of an image of the characteristic features of his language. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to investigate the language stamp as a means of creating an image of the invader in the story of Fedir Odrach «On Uncertain Grounds» (1962). Results. The function of language clichés and stamps is particularly significant in countries with dictatorships. The totalitarian government develops a special language, the language of nomenclature, in order to serve the ideology of society. Originality. For the first time, the language stamp is explored as a means of characterizing Soviet invaders in Fedir Odrach’s story «On Uncertain Grounds». The Bolsheviks brought not only specific speech, but also a characteristic demeanor, often brutal and tactless. The story of Fedir Odrach «On Uncertain Grounds» is a memoir prose. In it, the writer recounts the events of 1939, when, as a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, Poland was split between Germany and the USSR. That is why the story «On Uncertain Grounds» helps to understand the socio-historical process of a rather important and dramatic period for Ukraine and all of Europe. The author notes the paradoxical discrepancy between the real life of a «gray» citizen and «unbridled artificial official enthusiasm». The most important cognitive function of clichés and language stamps is the creation of mental stamps in the mass consciousness. Conclusion. Thus, the writer created a collective image of the occupier, choosing by the main means of his characterization language stamp. Analyzing this linguistic phenomenon, F. Odrach reveals the processes of formation of a totalitarian social consciousness, pointing to the crucial role of language in these processes.
